The Sammy Wave

By

It’s finally here! How to get that ‘Sammy’ wave. We had a blast recreating step-by-step how to get @sammythomp‘s soft waves.

1. Make sure your hair is FULLY dry
Any moisture left in your hair will create frizz and cause your waves to fall. We prepped Sam’s hair with Kérastase Couture Styling L’Incroyable Blow Dry Heat Protector Cream and blow-dried straight.

2. Size matters!
Bigger isn’t always better! Use a smaller barrel for thicker hair and a bigger barrel curling iron for thin hair.

3. Three is key
Work through steps 4 – 9 in 3 sections: side, side, back.

4. Start your first section at your recession
No matter if you have thick or thin hair always start at your recessions and always curl backwards from your face.

5. Want to stay in power?
Always, always, always use L’Oreal Professionnel Techni.art – Constructor Heat Setting Spray if you want your curls to stay! Spray from top to bottom of each section before you curl in an S motion.

TIP: Do not use hairspray before curling otherwise you are cooking your hair in alcohol plus it will be crunchy!

6. Start curling
Take a vertical section of hair and start about 3 finger widths down from the root. Let the rest of the hair hang down and twist up towards the root. Make sure to keep the iron perpendicular to the floor (vertical as I like to say to your face 🙂 ) Drop the iron and slowly let the rest of the hair pull through.

7. Continue curling the entire side in two to three layers
If you don’t do enough sections you will end up with that weird dent! If you do too many your hair will be too curly. To get more volume start curling the top section two finger widths from the root.

8. Create extra volume
While the top section is cooling sprinkle some L’oréal Professionnel Tecni Art Super Dust and let it set in you will brush it out later.

9. Section, spray and repeat!
Follow the same steps for the other side and the back section. When styling the back curl the sections towards each other.

10. Finish off strong
Finish by spraying Kérastase Couture Styling – VIP Volume in Powder Spray all over. This is a mineral-based hair spray with a strong hold.

TIP: If you find your curls don’t hold to save their life you most likely need to prep your hair better! Blow drying with a proper blow dryer, using a blow dry cream and steer clear of oils or serums.

11. And finally…. smooth and refine
Using a dime-sized amount of Elixir Ultime Originale run your fingers through your hair. Don’t be afraid to brush out your hair – your curls will stay because you used all the right products!
