Meet Markku And Chloe

By

Our August Community Feature is: Chloe, founder of Another Room by day, freelance creative by night and Markku, Founder of CDN and a freelance designer

Chloe, what do you like your hair to say about you?

Chloe: I would like my hair to say I know what I’m doing and how to use all of these products, but most of the time it says I’m doing my best. Or I was just in the lake. Lucky for me Markku makes great hats.

What do you guys do everyday?

Markku: Haha great question Daneka, thank you for asking. We both have the luxury of working from home so we each have our tasks. I wake up first normally and make us coffee and we work for about an hour or so before Chloe makes us breakfast. Depending on our client load, we’re at home on the computer until about 2pm and then head into town for meetings and then a 4:30pm REC Fitness workout.

Chloe: Oh man, it’s so different each day! We’ve worked to create a nice routine for the morning to have some normality. Markku makes coffee, and I make breakfast. During the summer we try to sit on our patio every morning and have our coffee if our inbox allows. Currently, I’m working with a production company in Vancouver to design a travel kit from scratch, building out a new website to sell the travel kit, doing my best to run a remote team, and planning a magic show. The day is never boring!

What’re you most excited about that’s down the pipe for you and your business(s)?

Markku: CDN launch party on August 29th at Canoe Coffee Roasters! This will be the first time that the brand is having an in-real-life experience and it’s going to be a cool one. CDN is also launching two collections at the event, something I have never done before.

Chloe: Another Room is launching a new site, and new collection in September so I’m super stoked about that … but if I’m being honest with myself I’m most excited about the magic show. Oh, and working with Markku for the CDN Courtyard Party! It’s the first time we get to create an IRL experience together, and he’s launching a new collection that I’m really excited about.

Favourite outdoor spot to hit up in the Okanagan?

Markku: Patios count for outdoors right?! haha just kidding. Honestly I think we have the best little secret beach at our house and it’s pretty tough to beat.

Chloe: Our neighbours have one of the most magical places on earth! Shout out to Little Creek. (Also, if you haven’t tried Little Creek Dressing … do yourself a favour and go get some.)

Another local business (other than Pomme of course) you’re pumped about?

Markku: That’s so tough! REC Fitness is such a big part of our daily routine, it’s hard not to get excited about them. But also like, Motherlove Kombucha is up to some pretty cool stuff and of course, Skinny Dukes which just opened. So ya, there’s some cool shit going on around Kelowna.

Chloe: Skinny Dukes! REC Fitness! Motherlove Kombucha!

Fave sustainability hack?

Markku: I have actually been working really hard to carry my own coffee to-go cup with me in my backpack so I don’t have to use a paper cup for coffee. I honestly feel so accomplished when I use it.

Chloe: If you don’t own a reusable water bottle you need to reevaluate your decisions.

Stylist

I am okanagan raised, in my mid twenties, enjoying life’s adventures. My work fulfills my love of working in a team, serving others, in a creative and challenging way. Both fitness (spin, bootcamp, barre, yoga), and getting into nature, fuel my soul. When I’m not creating, collaborating, or educating myself OR clients, you can find me hanging with my dog, cooking up a storm, exploring the world, participating in community events, or laughing with family and friends. Balance is my mantra, and I love trying new things ✌🏽
